The heart of our community
Our Christian ethos is at the heart of all we do.
We nurture and support our pupils, parents and staff in a caring learning community. We believe in the importance of developing children’s social skills and confidence leading to informed decision making.
We regularly attend our local church and actively participate in the life of our parish. At Kingsland we are walking in the light with Jesus. Together we will develop lifelong learners, through an exciting and creative approach to learning.

St. Mary's & St. John's Church
Faith. Hope. Love
Kingsland is the Bucknall parish school and we regularly attend St. Mary's & St. John’s Churches at Harvest, Christmas, Easter and for leavers service. The Bucknall Team Ministry lead worship in school at least once a week and support our Christian ethos.
Our relationship with our parish Churches and our local community is excellent.
During the pandemic, we modified the manner in which we would normally operate both from the academy and the Lighthouse Centre. Many positive outreach strategies have been delivered in partnership with St Mary's & St. John’s Churches and our parish:
1. We have introduced a ‘Friday Night Takeaway’ outreach opportunity. On a weekly basis we bless 5 families from our Academy and 5 families from each of our four neighbouring schools with a takeaway treat prepared by our Lantern Cafe. We feel it is important that we bless families to spend some time together.
2. We bless the elderly in our community with a hot lunch prepared by the Lantern Cafe every fortnight. We recognise that loneliness is at a high level due to the pandemic, and a meal delivered by a familiar adult can lift people’s mental health and wellbeing.
3. On Valentine’s Day we blessed 50 people with a God’s Love Afternoon Tea, Rev. Malc visited Oak Priory Residential Home and gifted them with 100 biscuits. We also blessed local key workers with packs of biscuits to say ‘Thank you’.
4. On Shrove Tuesday we gifted 50 of our families a Pancake Making kits. Our families also engaged with an online Pancake Party. We blessed 30 of our elderly with pancakes, made by The Lantern Cafe. We recognise that loneliness is at a high level due to the pandemic, and a meal delivered by a familiar adult can lift people’s mental health and wellbeing.
We welcome and actively participate in the opportunities to further develop the links between church, home and school.
St. John’s Church has established a ‘Just Giving’ page to raise the funds for this important outreach to continue in the coming months as we emerged from the pandemic and our community responds to the changes that we have all been part of. Kingsland C.E. Academy continues to support this and is delighted that our Lantern Cafe is supplying the food to bless our community alongside our children writing cards, prayers and messages to be delivered with the food.
Bucknall Team Ministry
Three Churches working together to share the love and good news of Jesus.
Our Chaplain
Rob is our children’s and community Chaplain. He works with children and their families to ensure that they are happy in school and also liaises with Rev. Dave and Rev. Malcolm, the clergy in our parish, as together they support our school and community.
Rob is available to support all children in school especially when they are sad or upset at those difficult times in a child’s life. He leads our Worship Team and together they plan and lead worship for the rest of the school community. They lead worship each half term and for special Christian services at Christmas and Easter. Our Worship Team are also supported to evaluate the worship led at school and throughout the year they are invited to contribute to services at St. John’s Church.
Rob also has a Chaplain’s Team of children that he works with and they are available to support everyone as we all ‘Walk in the Light with Jesus’ following our Kingsland values. The Chaplain’s Team can be found every lunchtime in our Crystal Oasis and Peace Garden.
Helping Others
As a church school, an important aspect of our ethos is thinking of others, particularly those less able or less fortunate than ourselves.
We have a good relationship with many different charities and over the years we have raised considerable amounts of money to help and support children all over the world. We hope that by participating in fundraising activities our pupils will learn that they can make a difference and that if we all work together we can help to bring about change.
“You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
